This morning there were 3 elk herds in Boxley Valley. One in the first Ponca field, an all bull herd in mid valley, and a large herd with a big herd bull in the Smith Creek field. The south herd bull is Godzilla, the biggest bull currently visible.
I have heard consistent reports of good evening viewing. This should be a good weekend for elk viewing. My recommendation remains get to Boxley Valley early and survey the whole valley before settling on a spot. Should be great viewing and photography weather.
Think about taking a November float trip. Conditions are ideal now and should hold all through the weekend. Take a change of clothing in a waterproof bag or consider renting a wet suit. http://buffaloriverchamber.com for details. This is also prime time for hiking and horsemen.
