Every year it is a treat when an elk herd rotates into Lost Valley. For two days now there has been a herd hanging around Lost Valley and conditions are right for it to continue for a while. Most often a Lost Valley herd is rotating between fields north and south of the observation pullout near the Lost Valley entrance. With recent haying, and an attack of armyworms in the Ponca fields, field choices have been narrowed down.
Lost Valley is an excellent venue for both watching and photographing elk. The old Clark Homestead is a great backdrop for photos.
Elsewhere in the valley elk viewing was pretty good too. The herds seem to have recovered from the haying. Cold weather with rain starting tonight should make this weekend absolutely outstanding for elk viewing. Remember elk like rainy, cloudy weather.
